A trip to Canyon De Chelly with HER is The Trip of a Lifetime!
In partnership with Canyon De Chelly Tours, we will get an in-depth look at the place called Tsegi where today Dine’ families continue to make their homes, raise livestock, and farm the lands. This canyon is part of the Navajo Nation and only accessible by private Dine guide. First we will travel by Jeep the length of the Canyon. We will then set out on foot to hike and explore the rich archaeology, geology, culture, and history that Canyon de Chelly has to offer. For nearly 5,000 years, people have lived in these canyons – longer than anyone has lived uninterrupted anywhere on the Colorado Plateau. A place like no other, the park and Navajo Nation work together to manage the land’s resources. We will stop to see sacred places such as Mummy Cave- a partially restored Ancestral apartment complex constructed under an arching overhang in the weathered sandstone and Antelope House Ruin, where colored pictographs of antelope created at the beginning of the last century are side-by-side with creations of the Ancestral Pueblo.
This trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Petrified Forest National Park. The park contains one of the world’s largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood, multi-hued badlands of the Chinle Formation, portions of the Painted Desert, historic structures, archeological sites, and displays of 225-million-year-old fossils. With a variety of trail options we will spend the day exploring all this National Park has to offer!
